We cordially invite you to participate in IFIP IWSOS 2012.

The main theme of the workshop is to discover the network science behind self-organizing systems, to facilitate and advance the understanding, learning, modeling, and analysis of self-organizational processes in nature (e.g., metabolic, DNA, brain networks) and to apply the knowledge of self-organization to man-made networks and systems.

The goal of the IWSOS workshops is to bring together leading international researchers and practitioners to create a visionary forum for discussing the future of self-organization. IWSOS addresses theoretical aspects of self-organization as well as applications in communication and computer networks and complex systems.

IFIP IWSOS 2012 is a two-day workshop that features two keynote talks given by:

MOTIVATION

Since the early 1990s, multi-agent system researchers have developed a
large body of knowledge on the foundations and engineering principles
for designing and developing agent-based systems. The 12 past editions
of the agent-oriented software engineering workshop (AOSE) had a key
role in this endeavor. For 2012, the workshop organizers and the
steering committee propose to organize an edition of AOSE workshop aimed
at exploring the new emerging role of agent-oriented software
engineering as a bridge from the now consolidated agent oriented
programming languages and platforms, to recent systems modelling
paradigms like self-*, autonomic systems, and systems of systems (SoS).
Thus, it is our hope to explore from an agent-based perspective,
foundations, models, methods, architectures, and tools for
engineering future software-intensive IT eco-systems.

The workshop organizers plan to publish accepted papers on a USB stick
as part of the AAMAS workshop registration package.
Revised post-proceedings papers will later be published in
a volume of the Lecture Notes for Computer Science series.


GOALS and TOPICS

The general goal of this year workshop is twofold: The first goal is to
study the role of agent-oriented software engineering in the design
phase of agents development. It is well known and accepted that agents -
from the software engineering perspective - are of particular interest
as an analysis abstraction. This has been true for several years but the
most recent advancements in agent-oriented programming languages have
proposed new challenges: software engineers may now design and code
their solutions in terms of agents. The old need of moving to the
object-oriented level of abstraction is overpassed and the new
developing platforms allow for a more natural transformation of AO
analysis models into AO design models. This reality has been soon
perceived by researcher and practitioners. An example of this new trend
may be found in the refreshed interest about testing of agents.

The second goal concerns the other side of the proposed ideal bridge:
the needs of new design approaches specifically suited for facing the
needs of self-organizing systems, autonomic systems and systems of
systems. In the last years we have seen considerable research efforts on
these topics; however, only few of them have their scope and foundations
in the software engineering field.

Novel efforts are necessary to cope with these new challenges in order
to find specific solutions that could bring such systems from research
to industrialization. In this context, a means for bridging the above
mentioned research (and application) streams may come from the advances
on organizations, norms, and institutions. Are they mature enough for
being applied to stable agent-oriented languages and for contributing to
the engineering of self-organizing and autonomic systems? The proposed
aim is find an answer to this question or to propose further hints for
future investigations on the application of organizations, norms and
institutions to the design of agent-oriented systems.

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

AOSE welcomes the submission of theoretical, experimental,
methodological as well as application papers with a clear research focus
on the topics outlined above. Each paper will be evaluated by three
members of the PC. Papers that present a valuable idea that needs
further development can be accepted as a short paper.

Papers should be between 8 and 12 pages, including the text, figures,
and references. The submissions must be formatted according to the
Springer Verlag LNCS style. PDF format is required. Papers can be

PUBLICATIONS

Pre-proceedings containing all accepted papers are provided
electronically on a USB stick as part of the AAMAS workshop registration

Lecture Notes in Computer Science volume. For this purpose, authors will
be given the opportunity to revise and re-submit their contributions
after the conference.

Scope of the Conference
=======================

Swarm intelligence is a relatively new discipline that deals with the
study of self-organizing processes both in nature and in artificial
systems. Researchers in ethology and animal behavior have proposed
many models to explain interesting aspects of social insect behavior
such as self-organization and shape-formation. Recently, algorithms
and methods inspired by these models have been proposed to solve
difficult problems in many domains.

An example of a particularly successful research direction in swarm
intelligence is ant colony optimization, the main focus of which is on
discrete optimization problems. Ant colony optimization has been
applied successfully to a large number of difficult discrete
optimization problems including the traveling salesman problem, the
quadratic assignment problem, scheduling, vehicle routing, etc., as
well as to routing in telecommunication networks. Another interesting
approach is that of particle swarm optimization, that focuses on
continuous optimization problems. Here too, a number of successful
applications can be found in the recent literature. Swarm robotics is
another relevant field. Here, the focus is on applying swarm
intelligence techniques to the control of large groups of cooperating
autonomous robots.

ANTS 2012 will give researchers in swarm intelligence the opportunity
to meet, to present their latest research, and to discuss current
developments and applications.

The three-day conference will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on
September 12-14, 2012.

Relevant Research Areas
=======================

ANTS 2012 solicits contributions dealing with any aspect of swarm
intelligence. Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest are:

Behavioral models of social insects or other animal societies that
can stimulate new algorithmic approaches.

Empirical and theoretical research in swarm intelligence.

Application of swarm intelligence methods, such as ant colony
optimization or particle swarm optimization, to real-world problems.

Theoretical and experimental research in swarm robotics systems.

Conference proceedings will be published by Springer in the LNCS
series.

The journal Swarm Intelligence will publish a special issue dedicated
to ANTS 2012 that will contain extended versions of the best research
works presented at the conference. Further details will be

WORKSHOP AIM AND SCOPE

The rapid development of computer-based technologies has made computers more and more complex and ubiquitous. Many computer-based systems are in charge of critical tasks such as, to mention only a few, the management of financial and medical databases, the monitoring of nuclear plants, the flying of airplanes, etc. Multi-agent systems (MAS) have been proposed as a new paradigm for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing open and distributed software systems. The foundational idea behind a Multi-Agent System is to have a loosely coupled network of software agents (i.e., sophisticated computer programs that act autonomously on behalf of their users) which interact to solve problems that are beyond the individual capacities or knowledge of each single agent. Therefore, it is not surprisingly MAS have received a lot of attention as reference computing paradigm to tackle complexity in modern computer-based systems.

However, the complexity of modern computer-based systems as well as their numerous applications has inherently increased the challenges for ensuring trustworthiness. Trustworthiness encompasses vital characteristics of a system such as safety (the non-occurrence of catastrophic consequences for the environment the system works in), security (the non-occurrence of unauthorized disclosure of information), integrity (the non-occurrence of inadequate information alteration), availability (the readiness for correct service of the system), reliability (the property of the system to continuously provide service) or more generically dependability. The overall trustworthiness of a system is connected to all the aforementioned properties and should be regarded holistically. Functional correctness, security, safety, reliability are facets that have to be ensured for the system's components as well as for the system as a whole.

The 1st International Workshop on Trustworthy Multi-Agent Systems (TruMAS 2012) aims at bringing together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in all the different aspects of trust, dependability and security in Multi-Agent Systems. The workshop is expected to stimulate discussions about the future development of appropriate models, methods, notations, languages and tools for trustworthy Multi-Agent Systems. The overall goal is to explore the different facets of trustworthiness in Multi-Agent Systems, how every single aspect can be fostered, and how they relate.

- Trust and reputation models, metrics and assessment in Multi-Agent Systems

Since the overall goal of trustworthy Multi-Agent Systems includes the investigation of several cross- disciplinary issues such as a deep understanding of trust vs. trustworthiness, trust-based approaches, dependability, etc..., a synergy between different scientific communities and research disciplines is needed. For this reason, although the workshop seems naturally focused on multi-agent issues, contributions from different disciplines such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, communication sciences, as well as from computer science specific sub-disciplines such as software engineering and dependability are welcomed and encouraged.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Submitted full papers must not exceed 10 pages in length, including bibliography and well-marked appendices. Papers can be submitted using the PROSE Online Paper Submission system available on the KES-AMSTA'12 Web site. Please remember to select the TruMAS invited session entry in the "Session Name" drop-down box when submitting your paper.

Please use the LNCS templates and style files available on the Springer Web site (Information for LNCS Authors).

Submitted papers will be evaluated by the program committee and chosen for presentation based on their scientific contribution and relevance to the topics of the workshop. At least one author of each accepted paper must register to the workshop and participate presenting the paper.

Proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in a volume of LNCS/LNAI.

OVERVIEW
ICAC is the leading conference on autonomic computing techniques, foundations, and applications. Autonomic computing refers to methods and means for automated management of performance, fault, security, and configuration with little involvement of users or administrators. Systems introducing new autonomic features are becoming increasingly prevalent, motivating research that spans a variety of areas, from computer systems, networking, software engineering, and data management to machine learning, control theory, and bio-inspired computing. ICAC brings together researchers and practitioners across these disciplines to address multiple facets of adaptation and self-management in computing systems and applications from different perspectives. Autonomic computing solutions are sought for clouds, grids, data centers, enterprise software, internet services, data services, smart phones, embedded systems, and sensor networks. In these environments, resources and applications must be managed to maximize performance and minimize cost, while maintaining predictable and reliable behavior in the face of varying workloads, failures, and malicious threats. Papers are solicited from all areas of autonomic computing, including (but not limited to):

* End-to-end techniques for management of resources, workloads,  performance, faults, power/cooling, security, and others.

* Self-managing components, such as server, storage, network  protocols, or specific application elements, and embedded and  mobile end systems such as smart phones.

* Decision and analysis techniques and their use, such as machine  learning, control theory, predictive methods, probability and  stochastic processes, queuing theory methodologies, emergent  behavior, rule-based systems, and bio-inspired techniques.

* Monitoring systems for autonomic computing.

* Hypervisor, operating systems, hardware, or application support  for autonomic computing.

* Novel human interfaces for monitoring and controlling autonomic  systems.

* Management topics, such as specification and modeling of  service-level agreements, behavior enforcement and tie-in with  IT governance.

* Toolkits, frameworks, principles and architectures, from  software engineering practices and experimental methodologies  to agent-based techniques and virtualization.

* Fundamental science and theory of self-managing systems:  understanding, controlling or exploiting system behaviors to  enforce autonomic properties.

* Applications of autonomic computing and experiences with  prototyped or deployed systems solving real-world problems in  science, engineering, business and society.

Papers will be judged on originality, significance, interest, correctness, clarity and relevance to the broader community. Papers should report on experiences, measurements, user studies, or other evaluations, as appropriate. Evaluations of a prototype or large-scale deployment of systems and applications is expected.

PAPER AND POSTER SUBMISSIONS
Full papers (a maximum of 10 pages in the two-column ACM proceedings format) and posters (2 pages) are invited on a wide variety of topics relating to autonomic computing. Submitted papers must be original work, and may not be under consideration for another conference or journal. Complete formatting and submission instructions can be found on the conference web site. Accepted papers and posters will appear in proceedings distributed at the conference and available electronically. Relevant top ICAC'12 papers will be invited for "fast-track" submissions to the ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems (TAAS).

WORKSHOPS, DEMONSTRATIONS AND EXHIBITION
ICAC'12 welcomes proposals for co-located workshops on topics of interest to the autonomic computing community. Workshop proposals should be submitted to the Workshop Chair, Fred Douglis (f.douglis@computer.org) by February 10, 2012. Workshops are expected to publish proceedings, and should cover areas that complement the main program. ICAC'12 will also feature a demonstration and exhibition session consisting of prototypes and technology artifacts such as demonstrating autonomic software or autonomic computing principles. Entries will be judged by a separate committee led by the demo/exhibit chair.

INDUSTRY SESSION
One of ICAC's important roles is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry. In its industry session, ICAC helps fulfill this role by presenting an industry viewpoint on technologies, products, and market needs. The industry session also addresses current challenges, and opportunities for academic and corporate research collaborations. We encourage industry leaders, including entrepreneurs, product developers, architects, managers, marketers and end users, to submit their papers and posters reflecting such industry perspectives as part of the regular submission process.

For presentation at the conference, authors should submit an abstract through EasyChair, the online submission/reviewing system. Submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the Program Committee and sorted into four categories: Oral presentation in a plenary session, oral presentation in a parallel session, poster presentation, or rejection. All the accepted abstracts will be published in the online proceedings (with an ISBN) on the conference website. Authors of accepted abstracts may submit full papers for inclusion in the online proceedings. Full paper submission is optional.

The Program Committees of the 2011 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Joint Conference on Web Intelligence and Intelligent Agent Technology (WI-IAT�11) invite proposals for Workshops. The Workshops will be held within the Conference, August, 22, 2011 at Lyon, France.

The main goal of the WI-IAT�11 workshops is to stimulate and facilitate active exchange, interaction and comparison of approaches, methods and ideas related to specific topics, both theoretical and applied, in the general areas related to Web Intelligence and Intelligent Agent Technology. The workshops will provide an informal setting where participants will have the opportunity to discuss specific technical topics in an atmosphere that fosters the active exchange of ideas.

The workshop organizers will be responsible for advertising the workshop, forming the program committees, reviewing and selecting the papers, and guaranteeing a high quality worthy of the prestige and range of the Conference. All papers accepted for workshops will be included in the Workshop Proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society Press and will be available at the workshops.

The workshop organizers will also have the discretion of editing selected papers (after their expansion and revision) into books or special journal issues. Workshops may be full-day or half-day. A full-day workshop should select 10-14 regular papers, while a half-day workshop should select 5-7 regular papers, from a large number of submissions. Submissions accepted as workshop papers will be allocated 4 pages in the proceedings. The workshop organizers should ensure the presence of authors of accepted papers at the workshops. Optionally, the workshop may be started or concluded by a panel focusing on interesting aspects, controversial issues, or unsolved problems to stimulate lively, thoughtful, and thought-provoking debate; we expect the workshop organizers to actively engage the audience and help them gain a deeper understanding of the issues. The goal of a panel is to debate and thus panels should always reflect more than one point of view.

Workshop Proposal Submission

Workshop organizers should submit their proposals (PDF) directly to the three Workshop Chairs via e-mail (see their email addresses below).
Workshop proposals should include the following elements:

- Title of the workshop
- Names of workshop organizers, affiliation, mailing address and e-mail address
- Short CV of organizers
- A description of the topics of the workshop (not exceeding 200 words)
- Type of the workshop (full-day or half-day)
- A description of how the workshop will contribute to the field of Web Intelligence and/or Intelligent Agent Technology
- A short description on how the workshop will be advertised so as to ensure a sufficiently wide range of authors and high quality papers
- Information about previous offerings of the proposed workshop.

Modern software systems have to operate under highly dynamic and
unpredictable operating conditions. User needs may change dynamically,
availability of resources may vary, subsystems may come and go at runtime,
etc. To deal with such dynamics, systems must be self-adaptive, i.e. they
must be able to adapt themselves at runtime to optimize performance, protect
from intrusions, heal from failures, etc. During the last decade, multiple
approaches have been proposed to engineer self-adaptive systems. From these
efforts, we learned that the construction of self-adaptive systems is
significantly more challenging than traditional systems. The aim of this
special issue is to provide an overview of the state of the art in the field
of self-adaptive software systems and outline the challenges for future
research.

We invite quality submissions focusing on all aspects of self-adaptation,
with an emphasis on the engineering of self-adaptive software systems.
Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to:

- models and theories for self-adaptation
- formal methods for self-adaptive systems
- architectural styles and patterns for self-adaptive systems

All articles should consider the practical application of the idea through
case studies, experiments, empirical validation, or systematic comparisons
with other approaches already in practice.

Intelligent computing covers a hybrid palette of methods and techniques derived from classical artificial intelligence, computational intelligence, and intelligent agents. Distributed systems contain loosely-coupled components running on different networked computers that communicate and coordinate their actions by message transfer. The emergent field of intelligent distributed computing is expected to pose special challenges of adaptation and fruitful combination of results of both areas with a great impact on the development of new generation intelligent distributed information systems. The aim of this symposium is to bring together researchers involved in intelligent distributed 
computing to allow cross-fertilization and synergy of ideas and to enable advancement of researches in the field.

The symposium welcomes submissions of original papers concerning all aspects of intelligent distributed computing ranging from concepts and theoretical developments to advanced technologies and innovative applications. Papers acceptance and publication will be judged based on their relevance to the symposium theme, clarity of presentation, originality and accuracy of results and proposed solutions.

Examples of Multi-Agent Based Complex Systems include social insects, population aggregations in urbane regions, market based economy, city taxi cabs, etc. Swarm Intelligence represents a methodology for analyzing and modeling Multi-Agent Based Complex Systems, and Emergent Computing is concerned with the methodology for engineering robust, dependable, self-adaptable Multi-Agent Based Complex Systems out of massive, simple, unreliable objects, devices or units. Essentially Emergent Computing represents a new approach which takes a Collective Intelligence point of view upon all types of artificial systems, e.g., web/Internet based systems, social networking, online virtual communities, pervasive/ubiquitous computing, ambient intelligence, socio-technical systems, and so forth.

*SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP*

Internet is a medium allowing services and information exchange in an open and decentralized environment, notably with numerous applications for virtual enterprises. It concerns enterprise information systems, local, regional and governmental organizations but it also involves more and more common users in the so-called web 2.0. The main stake is to use Internet as a technological support to communication, information exchange, service composition personalisation and access by all and anywhere. In this perspective, some work has been done these last years to combine classical techniques of information management with artificial intelligence technologies thus creating a new research domain called Web Intelligence. Research in Web Intelligence contributes to the development of algorithms, models and tools to handle the social and economic impact of the web usages.

The workshop will provide presentation and discussion opportunities for researchers working on web intelligence applied to collaborative networks, such as virtual enterprises and organizations. The possibilities and consequences of the web usage for collaborative networks are tremendous and new tools are required to satisfy users and service providers. Thus, Web Intelligence brings new research problems related to information and service access, quality of service, personalization, privacy preserving, trust as well as other issues.

The workshop Web Intelligence and Virtual Enterprises (VE) expects contributions on topics such as:

*SUBMISSIONS*

The Web Intelligence and Virtual Enterprises workshop welcomes the submission of theoretical, experimental, methodological as well as application papers. Papers may report on completed work, descriptions of work in progress or discussion papers.

Submitted papers will undergo a thorough review process. Papers will be published into the CD-Rom of the conference. In addition, a selection of the workshop papers will be published as post-proceedings in a special issue of the International Journal of Web Intelligence and Agent Systems (http://www.iospress.nl/loadtop/load.php?isbn=15701263).

IAT 2010 will provide a leading international forum to bring together
researchers and practitioners from diverse fields, such as computer
science, information technology, business, education, systems
engineering, and robotics, to (1) examine the design principles and
performance characteristics of various approaches in intelligent agent
technology, and (2) increase the cross-fertilization of ideas on the
development of autonomous agents and multi-agent systems among
different domains.  By encouraging idea-sharing and discussions on the
underlying logical, cognitive, physical, and sociological foundations
as well as the enabling technologies of intelligent agents, IAT 2010
will foster the development of novel paradigms and advanced solutions
in agent-based computing.

IAT 2010 will be jointly held with the 2010 IEEE/WIC/ACM International
Conference on Web Intelligence (WI-10).  The two conferences will have
a joint opening, keynote, reception, and banquet. Attendees only need
to register for one conference and can attend workshops, sessions,
tutorials, panels, exhibits and demonstrations across the two
conferences. We are also planning a joint panel, joint paper sessions,
and a doctoral mentoring program to discuss
common problems in the two areas.

High-quality papers in all WI related areas are solicited. 
Paper submissions should be limited to a maximum of 8 pages in 
the IEEE 2-column format. 
The same format will be used for final camera-ready papers
(see the Author Guidelines at
http://www.ieeeconfpublishing.org/cpir/AuthorKit.asp?Community=CPS&Facility=CPS_Dec&ERoom=WI%2DIAT+2008).  
All submitted papers will be reviewed by the Program Committee 
on the basis of technical quality, relevance, significance, and clarity. 

Note that IAT'10 will accept ONLY on-line submissions in 
PDF format. Please use the Submission Form on the WI'10
website to submit your paper. Accepted papers will be published in the
conference proceedings by the IEEE Computer Society Press that is
indexed by EI.

Submissions accepted as regular papers will be allocated 8 pages in the
proceedings and accorded oral presentation times in the main conference. 
Submissions accepted as short papers will be allocated 4
pages in the proceedings and will have a shorter presentation time at
the conference than regular papers.

All co-authors will be notified at all time, for the submission,
notification, and confirmation on the attendance. Submitting a paper
to the conference and workshops means that, if the paper is accepted,
at least one author should attend the conference to present the
paper. The acceptance list and no-show list will be openly published
on-line. For no-show authors, their affiliations will receive a
notification.

Papers receiving outstanding review scores from IAT'10 will be 
invited for possible inclusion, in an expanded/revised form, 
in Web Intelligence and Agent Systems: An International Journal 
(http://wi-consortium.org/journal.html). Those that are recommended by 
reviewer(s) to the Journal will also be considered.

The best paper awards will be conferred at the conference on the
authors of (1) the best research paper and (2) the best application
paper. Application-oriented submissions will be considered for the
best application paper award.

 MISSION OF IJARAS:
Prospective authors are invited to submit manuscripts for possible publication in the International Journal of Adaptive, Resilient, and Autonomic Systems. The primary objective of IJARAS is to provide worldwide readership to high quality, novel, effective approaches to design, develop, maintain, evaluate, and benchmark adaptive-and-dependable systems, i.e. devices and services that are built to sustain quality of service and quality of experience despite the occurrence of potentially significant and sudden changes or failures in their infrastructure and the surrounding environments.

IJARAS has multiple focuses, ranging from conceptual models and paradigms to technological aspects. IJARAS builds upon a core mission statement and research direction:

The awareness of today's urgent need to structure our computer systems as adaptive systems constantly re-optimizing in view of changes both exogenous (environmental) and endogenous (pertaining to internal assets). It introduces a problem, which implies a research direction --- a thesis. The truth about this statement is drastically reverberating through several domains, and in so doing several seemingly unrelated research domains such as cross-layer adaptation for mobile devices and business process re-engineering are regarded as special cases of a larger theory of systems. This vision paves the way to cross-fertilization; and through that, IJARAS aims at becoming apowerful tool to steer novel ideas and inject new research directions in this area.

 RECOMMENDED TOPICS:
Topics to be discussed in this journal include (but are not limited to) the following:
 
* Mechanisms, both general and special-purpose, to model, design, express, and develop adaptive, autonomic and resilient systems;
* Analytical and simulation tools to measure a system's ability to withstand faults and optimally re-adjust to new environments;
